Coaching athletics as well as having my own kids' activities, I can relate your article and feelings. I think many of these functions include adults at the hotel bar just to receive some "adult time" and selfishly but not maliciously have a break from parenting! It provides a sense of a temporary "vacation" feeling. It is also an easy way for people to form a bond. Just like playing sports. Teammates form a bond on the field because of the time and effort they put into practice and competition. Alcohol is a lazy, easy way for some people to form a bond with others. I'll admit it can be fun. Although alcohol is a toxic poison. It does way more harm than good. I tell my kids all the time that it is one of the top things in the world that I wish I would have never tried!
