Coach in the Stands

I began my coaching career at twenty-one years old and had my first child at twenty-nine. With my coaching background I volunteered coaching all of her athletic activities. I felt privileged for the opportunity to participate with kids rather than sit and watch from the stands. As my beautiful wife and I had three more children, I volunteered with all of their sports while continuing my coaching career. Needless to say, I have not spent a lot of time as a fan in the stands!

After years of Coaching High School, I decided to take on the challenge of coaching at the college level. I loved almost everything about it! I especially enjoyed the recruiting aspect of it. Visiting with motivated athletes and their families is extremely inspiring! The conversations almost always have such a positive vibe! Every new job has a learning curve. My initial thought was to ware our university apparel to stadiums as I was seeking out possible recruits while building relationships. This obviously had many benefits! It helped promote our program and opened up multiple conversations that might have been missed if I were to ware street cloths. The downside was I spent so much time speaking with people that I felt I was missing possible prospects on the field. I decided to start taking a low profile while visiting high school stadiums.
