5 — Ways a Coach Earns Trust
Coaching is a 24–7 addiction! We spend our spare time attending conventions, researching media platforms seeking information with the ambition to improve our knowledge and coaching ability. Our job is to share this knowledge in the spirit of competition! The goal is to effectively guide individual athletes to perform to the best of their ability. Next, mesh the individual ability and personalities towards a unified team concept. The secret to unifying a group of individuals with different personalities and family backgrounds is — TRUST! A coach must get the athletes to trust each other on the field.
A coach earns trust by:
- Ask and support other interests & activities
Believe it or not, your sport might not be their only passion. Activities such as Music, Theater, Academic Clubs as well as other sports also require time, effort, and work. Showing encouragement and attending other activities that are important to them will show you care. Take it a step further and invite other teammates to attend as well! Bring your family!
2. Showing empathy with honesty
Lying or sugarcoating the truth does not provide the athlete any favors. They need honest feedback for their self-improvement and awareness. Coaches may hold back information accordingly. Many times, less information is more…
